About Chambercombe Manor

Set in a secluded valley, nestling snugly near the Heritage Coast of Ilfracombe, North Devon, the Manor House is thought to date from the 11th century and was mentioned in the Domesday Book. It still retains much of its original architecture and is in a wonderful state of preservation. The earliest record we have of it was in the possession of Sir Henry Champernon, who was Lord of the Manor of Ilfracombe in 1162 until the early 16th Century when it then became the property of Henry Duke of Suffolk and father of the Jane Grey.

Chambercome has many original features including a barrel ceiling, a plaster Tudor frieze, priest hole and a mysterious chamber that house a skeleton.  There is also rumoured to be a secret passage used by smugglers of old.  In addition to the period features of the building, eight rooms of the Manor contain  may fine pieces of period furniture.

There are approximately 3 acres of beautiful gardens and you can meander through the wooded pathways, lawns and hebaceous borders.  Enjoy the peaceful setting of the water gardens fed by a natural spring, or breathe in the scent of the aromatic roase and herb gardens.

Indulge in a traditional Manor cream tea in our Buutery, on the patio, or refresh yourself with a morning coffee or light lunch, and soak up the experience of times gone by.

We have a tea room and Gift shop and 5 holiday cottages.
