We are now closed until April 2019. Thanks to all our visitors this year - we look forward to meeting new and old friends in 2019!
Please see our full opening times for more information.
Hele Corn Mill (or 'Old Corn Mill') dates from 1525 and is a unique watermill in North Devon. Located just 300m from stunning Hele Bay beach, a visit to the mill makes a perfect family visit.
Guided tours are given by the family who run the mill, and children and adults alike will enjoy learning about the history of the mill, from how flour has been made here over the centuries, to some of the mishaps which have befallen the millers! To keep children entertained we have photo quiz, 'find the mice' and 'count the millstone' challenges.
One of the highlights of our tour is our 1920s National engine which is in full working order and can be demonstrated for you in our guided tours.
The Miller's Wife tearoom has won the Devon Life "Best Tearoom" award in both 2013 and 2014 and serves cream teas and mill-made cakes, many made with our specially milled Wholemeal flour.
Access: The tearoom is accessible for wheelchairs but unfortunately the mill itself has steps and uneven flooring.
Dogs welcome in the tearoom and teagarden but not the mill itself.
|Free for self-guided visits|
Children and adults alike will enjoy our interactive guided tours!
During the tours, you will learn about the history of the mill and how flour has been made here for hundreds of years! There will be demonstrations of the water wheel turning (water-dependent) and the National Diesel Engine in use (miller dependent)!. If you particularly wish to see the National Diesel Engine operating, please phone in advance to check.
Children will enjoy taking a go at making flour using the hand quern before taking on our 'find the mice', photo quiz and count the millstones challenges.
